2014-02-24 To my mother.

Hello mother,

You have worked for a fairly long time of your life, and now you have free time and money. With what you have right now, you have the necessary factors to go on a trip. Having a child abroad, you have the perfect excuse to spend some time in Belgium.

Come to Leuven to spend a few days with me, mother. I am in a moment in which I spread peace, happiness and calm around me. A few days here may be perfect for you. We both know that you love to travel, see the world, learn and have new experiences. I think I can guarantee that your time here will not be wasted. The only objective I have with your visit is to learn and that you learn everything that you have taught me.

I can affirm that you are a perfectly independent person, with the necessary skills to operate freely in Belgium and Europe. Don’t worry about me, I will take my time to do whatever I need or want, if I need or want it. So, I would not like you to think that you can be a nuisance, annoyance, or a burden. Don’t worry about me: I know hoe my mother is like and I know I won’t have to take too much care of her. ;-)

Personally, I have the feeling of showing my gratitude and being thankful for everything you have taught me. But I don’t know when or how often I will return to Valladolid, (Spain). The opportunity of continuing learning from you while giving back part of everything you have given me may not come easily. It seems to me that right now is the right time. I would like to spend as much time as possible with you in these moments, because in the future I do not know the distance that will separate us nor the ease and frequency of our meetings.

Since I don’t want you to spend excessive money to come here, we can talk about different possibilities. As for the accommodation and other amenities, don’t worry, you can sleep in my room and I can go to a friend’s house. Or we can sleep, if you want, the two of us in the same room. We will be deciding by sharing our points of view.

You have to go empty to return full. You have to go back empty, to fill yourself”. At the moment, neither you nor I know how to do it, but we try to learn enough to make it happen.

A warm and comforting hug,

Carlos
